What happened to the 50 points payment for unlisted phones?

On 31 December 2009 Bootsrecycle.com changed so we could give you the best trade in values/ prices possible. As part of this we have removed the option to send in unlisted phones and receive 50 points.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best service possible We recognised there may be customers with envelopes with our old terms and conditions, so you will still receive 50 points for any unlisted phones you send to us until 12th February 2010. However after this date we will be unable to process this offer.

Which inkjet cartridges can be recycled?

For a qualifying list of inkjet cartridges click here. Listed cartridges are worth 100 points plus we’ll donate 20p to charity. Points and donations cannot be given for Epsons, Epson compatible or damaged cartridges.

How do I know if my device is in working order?

A working device has to switch on, have no water damage and an undamaged screen.

All digital cameras and satellite navigation systems must have the battery fully charged and adaptor included as well as meeting the above conditions.

How do I find out the manufacturer and model of my device?

For a mobile phone, try taking the battery cover off and looking under the battery. The name of the manufacturer and mobile phone model are usually written on the sticker under the battery.

For other devices such as digital cameras and satellite navigation systems the manufacturer name and model is usually displayed on the outer casing.

Do I need to send in all the accessories as well?

Mobile phones must be received with a fully charged battery (failure to do so will result in a reduced value), please do not send chargers, accessories or user manuals.

Digital cameras must be received with a fully charged battery (if applicable) and charger (failure to do so will result in a reduced value)

iPods must be received fully charged and with the charger (failure to do so will result in a reduced value)

Satellite Navigation Systems must be received with a fully charged battery, any mountings, charger and manuals (failure to do so will result in a reduced value)

Do I need to send the SIM card?

No, we do not need your SIM card. Please remove your SIM card before sending your phone.

Do I pay postage when I send my items to you?

You do not have to pay anything to send your items back to us. Simply place your items in the freepost envelope that we provide and just post it back to us. We will not be responsible for devices and inkjet cartridges lost, missing or stolen during transit. Mobile phones, iPods, digital cameras, satellite navigation systems and inkjet cartridges that are missing will only be credited if a valid proof of delivery can be provided.

What’s the best way to send my device?

When sending your device to us, we recommend that you obtain a Certificate of Postage which can be obtained free of charge from any Post Office. If the device is subsequently lost in the post, it will be covered up to the value of 3200 points (£32 when you spend in store) and should be claimed directly from Royal Mail. If the value of the device is more than 3200 points (£32 when you spend in store), we recommend you send it to us using Special Delivery available from the Post Office. If you choose to use Special Delivery, this will be entirely at your own expense. Special Delivery enables you to track your mobile phone until it arrives with us and will insure you against its loss. Neither Boots nor Redeem accept any responsibility for devices that are not received by us.

I selected to print a freepost address label and use my own envelope but now I can’t click back to the order confirmation page to print it. What can I do?

Don‘t worry, we‘ve sent you a confirmation email containing the freepost address label and the order summary that you need to put inside the envelope with your item(s)

Will I get confirmation?

We will email, text or post confirmation that we have received your items and confirm when your points will be ready for collection.

What if I change my mind?

Unfortunately, devices, and inkjet cartridges cannot be returned once received.

How do I collect my points?

Your points will be available within 30 days. Simply pop your permanent Advantage Card into an Advantage Card Extra Offers Kiosk in one of our larger Boots stores to collect your points.

Where is my nearest Advantage Card Extra Offers Kiosk?

To find a store with an Extra Offers Kiosk close to you click here.

How much are Advantage Card points worth?

Each Advantage Card point is worth a penny when you buy things to treat yourself with. For more information about our Advantage Card scheme click here.

I have a Republic of Ireland Advantage Card. Can I still participate?

No. This initiative is available to UK Advantage Card holders only.

Is there a limit to the number of devices I can send in?

The offer is limited to 6 devices per household in any 6 month period. The value of items returned beyond this limit will be donated to charity.

What happens if stolen mobiles are sent in?

If a device sent in to us turns out to be stolen or the subject of an investigation we will hand these items over to the police and no payment will be issued for such goods.

What happens to my device and inkjet cartridge once I have sent it in?

If your device is in good working order it will be refurbished and sold on for reuse as an affordable means of communication predominantly in developing countries. Those that can’t be repaired are sent to be "end of life" recycled. The precious metals and other components that can be reused are extracted from the handset and any remaining materials smelted for energy recovery. Inkjet cartridges are refilled for reuse and returned to the consumer stream as a more environmentally friendly option.

What are the environmental benefits of recycling my device?

When old digital devices are thrown in the bin they end up in landfill sites across the country. Once in these sites they do not break down and may pollute surrounding soil and waterways, damaging plant and wildlife.

Why are MacMillan Cancer Support your chosen charities?

As part of our ongoing support for cancer, MacMillan Cancer Support is our national charity partner. We’ll donate £1 for every listed device recycled and 20p for every listed inkjet cartridge. Unfortunately, we are unable to make donations for unlisted devices, non working devices and unlisted inkjet cartridges.

Can I donate all of my Advantage Card points to charity?

Sorry, we are unable to do this at this time.

How does Gift Aid work?

If you are a UK tax payer MacMillan Cancer Support can claim an extra 28p for every £1 donation. You must pay an amount of Income Tax and / or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that the charity reclaims on your donations in the appropriate tax year (currently 28p for each £1 you give). Simply fill in your details on the freepost envelope or online and we’ll do the rest.
